# Dark Academia Meets Cosmic Horror in This Absolutely Stunning Debut! ## ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars Holy cosmic conspiracies, Batman! 🦇 Clifton Brown just delivered a debut novel that completely blew my mind and left me desperately craving more from The Shadow Core Saga. "In the Ghost's Shadow" is what happens when you take the best elements of dark academia, throw in some serious science fiction worldbuilding, add a dash of supernatural thriller, and wrap it all up in a romance that will make your heart race faster than Brick and Tish running from interdimensional threats. **The Good (aka Everything):** 🔬 **The Science is SOLID** - As someone who appreciates when authors do their homework, Brown's integration of real scientific concepts with the mystical Akashic Field theory is absolutely brilliant. The genetic mutation aspects and the way supernatural abilities are explained through scientific frameworks had me entirely convinced this could actually happen. 💕 **The Romance Hits Different** - Tish and Brick's relationship evolution from that initial college classroom encounter to their cosmic partnership is beautifully developed. Their dual POV structure lets us see how they both struggle with desire versus destiny, and the emotional vulnerability beneath all that power is *chef's kiss* level good. 🌌 **World-Building That Doesn't Quit** - From university labs to Antarctic research facilities haunted by ghostly whispers, every setting feels lived-in and purposeful. The cosmic scope of the threat balanced against intimate character moments creates this perfect tension that kept me turning pages. 😱 "That Villain WHAT!!" Zindriya is the kind of antagonist that makes you equal parts terrified and fascinated. The manipulation and scheming that puts our protagonists in impossible positions had me genuinely worried for their safety. "The Characters:" "Tish:" Fierce, vulnerable, brilliant, and absolutely refusing to be anyone's damsel in distress 👑 "Brick": The perfect blend of ordinary guy and extraordinary legacy, dealing with powers he never asked for. "Supporting Cast:" Every character serves a purpose and feels real, especially that manipulative science professor with secrets darker than Brick's genetic mutations "Perfect For Fans Of:" Dark academia aesthetics, cosmic horror that doesn't skimp on the science, enemies-to-lovers with actual emotional development, and stories where the world's fate literally depends on two people figuring out how to trust each other. "Genre Blending at its Finest:" This book doesn't just cross genres, it obliterates the lines between them. Dark fantasy, hard sci-fi, paranormal romance, and thriller elements all work together seamlessly. It's like Brown took everything I love about speculative fiction and wrapped it in a story I couldn't put down. "Fair Warning:" This ends on a note that will have you immediately checking Amazon for the release date of Book 2. The emotional investment is real, people! 😭 Clifton Brown has created something truly special here. The Shadow Core Saga is off to an absolutely incredible start, and I'm already planning to recommend it to everyone I know who appreciates quality storytelling with heart, brains, and cosmic stakes. "Thank you to Clifton Brown and VoraciousReaders for the gifted copy of this book! I was happy to leave my honest opinion about what has quickly become one of my favorite reads of the year." 🙏🏾✨

In the Ghost’s Shadow by Clifton Brown kicks off The Shadow Core Saga with a genre-blending fusion of urban fantasy, cosmic mystery, and intense romantic drama. We’re with Brick and Tish, two college students drawn together by fate and fractured by ancient powers. This dual perspective novel explores the clash between human vulnerability and supernatural inheritance through their eyes. As a web of secrets, curses, and dangerous cosmic forces unfurls around them, Brick and Tish must confront not only external threats but the terrifying power they each hold within. With its scientific underpinnings, mythic scope, and emotionally rich narrative, this is a story of love tested by destiny and a universe hanging in the balance. Author Clifton Brown has a gentle way of letting the threads of his storytelling gradually come together in interesting and disparate ways, and this makes for a refreshingly smart blend of dark fantasy and science fiction that doesn’t skimp on heart either. There’s a lot of feeling and a clear love for the central characters in their tender narration, and this sharp focus in prose and dialogue makes Brick and Tish compelling leads whose chemistry ignites even more than the otherworldly moments that are happening around them. This emphasizes that sense of power building, which mirrors the great pacing of the plot and raises the stakes so that we as readers are more and more invested with every twist. And there are certainly twists aplenty, as Brown builds a complex universe that feels both mythic and modern for a gripping, high-stakes debut that leaves you eager for the next installment in the saga. Overall, I would certainly recommend In the Ghost’s Shadow for sci-fi fans seeking a new series to start, and I can’t wait for more.

Must read 🏆 Intelligently delicious! This story may live rent-free in my head. Brick is 'book boyfriend' material. Mason “Brick” Redstone is a nerdy, Black, mathematical genius just trying to quietly get through college under the radar. But when Brick is unexpectedly thrust into a partnership with the stunningly intelligent Latisha “Tish” Owusu, under the guise of a joint science experiment, the threads of his shadowed past and uncertain future start unraveling his very soul. The character development is phenomenal. I've never been a big romance fan, but watching the organic growth of the relationship between Brick and Tish was pure magic. Brick's chivalry is refreshing and authentic, a breath of fresh air in their dynamic. “But Brick does, and he’s the first person I’ve been with who has shown me that I’m more than just an assortment of desirable body parts.” One of the most refreshing aspects of this story is witnessing the character evolutions. Clifton Brown masterfully depicts Brick’s descent into madness while maintaining his core identity. As Brick endures harrowing moments, he’s forced to grapple with who he is, who he must become, and how this transformation will affect him permanently. Each character undergoes their own compelling metamorphosis, leaving readers to reflect on their own emotions and perspectives. The whole cast of characters felt real and believable. The worldbuilding is extraordinary. Even a familiar setting, like a mansion in the West, comes alive with vivid imagery as Brick slips in and out of the Akashic Field—an ethereal plane connecting creation and chaos. You can almost feel the pain of tortured souls and smell the lingering garlic and grime around certain characters. The descriptions of his use of power resonate deeply. And every time Brick experienced the whump of his power, the reader felt the crackling pain that Brick endured. This story is as riveting as it is poetic, thought-provoking, and immersive. I recommend this to anyone seeking an intelligently delicious read. Honestly, I’m looking forward to the next installment (Dear Clifton Brown, PLEASE write another one… sincerely, a new fan).

This Book Just Ruined My Sleep Schedule (In the Best Way!) 🌙 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars Listen, I picked this up thinking I'd read a chapter or two before bed. That was Thursday night. It's now Saturday morning and I haven't slept properly since because I physically could not stop reading! 😴 "Here's the deal:" Clifton Brown threw me into this story about two college students who think they're just dealing with some regular academic drama, and WHAM! Suddenly, there are genetic mutations, cosmic forces, and a romance that made me actually gasp out loud on public transportation. 🚇 "Tish is everything I want in a protagonist." She's smart, she's stubborn, and when the universe starts throwing interdimensional threats at her, she doesn't just survive, she thrives. Watching her figure out her own power while navigating her complicated feelings about Brick had me cheering for her every step of the way. "And Brick?" This guy is carrying the weight of a cursed family legacy while figuring out if his feelings for Tish are real or just cosmic destiny messing with his head. The internal conflict is so well written that I genuinely worried about his mental state throughout the book. "What caught me off guard:" The science! I was expecting handwavy magic, but Brown actually explains how these supernatural abilities work through genetic mutations and something called the Akashic Field. I'm not a science person, but even I could follow the logic, which made everything feel surprisingly believable. "The settings are incredible." From that first college classroom encounter to the creepy Antarctic research facility (seriously, those ghostly whispers had me reading with all the lights on 👻), every location serves the story perfectly. The world feels lived-in and dangerous in all the right ways. "Fair warning:" This book ends at a point that will have you immediately googling "Shadow Core Saga Book 2 release date" because you NEED to know what happens next. The emotional investment is real, people! "Skip this if:" You need a happy, simple romance. This gets dark, it gets complicated, and these characters make some choices that will stress you out. "Buy this if:" You love stories where smart people figure out impossible problems together, you enjoy romance that feels earned rather than instant, or you're looking for something that combines the best parts of X-Files with actual relationship development. I plan to buy copies for my sci-fi-loving friends because this is the kind of book you want to discuss with people. Clifton Brown just earned a permanent spot on my auto-buy list! Thank you to Clifton Brown and VoraciousReaders for the gifted copy of this book! I was happy to leave my honest opinion about what turned into an absolutely addictive reading experience. 🙏🏾✨

This book was a thrilling mix of dark sci-fi, fantasy, and action! Brick and Tish’s partnership kept me hooked as they uncovered secrets, battled unseen forces, and unraveled a mystery that felt larger than life. The world-building was fantastic. The blend of supernatural abilities with scientific intrigue made for an exciting read. I love fast-paced adventures with deep lore and a touch of romance, and this book is just like that!

The book uses a very interesting layout. It is divided into chapters, and the chapters are further divided into Parts that don't have titles. I loved the setting and the atmosphere of the book. Although there were violent scenes, I believe they were spot-on and blended harmoniously with the plot. Some interesting names were used in the book, which I found hard to remember at first, like Zindriya and Cleddyf. Overall, I loved the story and would like to read the continuation of Brick's adventures.
